Starting from 1 April, Primark will raise the average hourly wages for its retail assistants across England, Scotland, and Wales from £11 to £12, and from £11.51 to £12.56 for those working in London. This increase means that over the past two years, a retail employee at Primark will have seen their hourly pay rise by more than 20%.
This wage hike follows the retailer’s decision last year to eliminate age-related pay differences for employees aged 23 and under, ensuring a more equitable pay structure.
Primark employees also enjoy a variety of benefits, including a 15% discount all year round, wellbeing initiatives, access to an employee assistance programme, flexible working hours, a pension scheme, and opportunities for personal and professional development.
Kari Rodgers, UK retail director at Primark, commented on the pay increase, stating: “Our employees do a brilliant job every day serving our customers and we want everyone to be fairly rewarded and recognised for their hard work. We hope this pay increase goes some way towards demonstrating our continued thanks for all that they do in our stores and for our customers.”
Primark, which employs over 30,000 individuals across its UK retail branches and head office, announced in January its plan to invest over £100 million in its UK stores throughout the year.
