The national retirement forecast showed 31% face poverty in retirement, which is an improvement from 39% last year.

Jerry Butcher of Scottish Widows discusses how operational barrier are limiting employers’ ability to improve pension outcomes.

Graeme Bold said: “Bringing private markets into workplace pensions is a major milestone in helping customers make the most of their retirement savings."

Scottish Widows warns that long career breaks and lower lifetime contributions are leaving over a third of women vulnerable to poverty in retirement.

The research found the main reason for dissatisfaction was uncompetitive pension benefits compared with other employers, reported by 68%.

Businesses that help employees take an active role in their pensions are also seeing stronger financial results, according to Scottish Widows.

The new system will now support servicing for individual savings accounts and mutual funds, and enable digital servicing for customers.

Nearly half (48%) of people in these regions could struggle to cover their basic needs when they stop working.

37% did not feel confident they could cover unexpected emergencies, while 33% said they had no disposable income left each month.

The site, herwealthnetwork.co.uk, will support women with practical help, in-person events and online resources.

Scottish Widows’ research found that 39% of people in the UK were not on track for a minimum retirement lifestyle, up from 35% in 2023.
