Santander Consumer UK launches salary sacrifice car scheme
The lender plans to treble the size of its fleet by the end of 2030.

The lender plans to treble the size of its fleet by the end of 2030.

The aim is to make benefit reporting more efficient and accurate, helping both employers and employees by cutting delays and errors.

The scheme lets employees pay for solar, batteries and EV charge points through their employer using pre-tax salary reductions.

The scheme launched on 7th April 2026 and has already seen strong early engagement, with 30% of employees logging in to explore the offering within the first week.

According to GRiD, 23% of employers expect to reduce the generosity of pension contributions, while 22% plan to cut back on other employee benefits.

Insurance is priced based on individual driver risk, as opposed to the profile of the whole fleet.

Richard Hipkiss said: “As demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, fleets are looking for practical solutions that help reduce complexity [...] these partnerships are an important part of how we continue to respond to that.”

Research from Barnett Waddingham found around 62% of workers said they used salary sacrifice, but 63% were unaware it will be capped.

Staff are offered a choice of new and used models from BMW, BYD Hyundai, JAECOO, Porsche and Tesla, among others.

The scheme aims to support staff with cost-effective motoring, while backing greener travel options.

Chris Walton explains how the 2029 salary sacrifice reforms could significantly increase employer National Insurance costs, forcing businesses to rethink remuneration strategies.

Chris Eastwood said: “Anyone contributing more than £2,000 a year through salary sacrifice will lose NI savings on the excess, and employers will see their NI costs rise accordingly."
