The Institute of the Motor Industry and 10 automotive employers have written to Pat McFadden MP warning that proposed apprenticeship reforms could weaken training quality in safety-critical automotive roles.
In May, there were 2.3 vacancies per 100 employees, down 28% year-on-year, and down 41% compared with two years ago.
The report, 'Understanding the UK Accident & Repair Workforce', revealed that the sector loses an estimated 4,700 workers every year.
Seven employees from across the Toyota and Lexus retail networks told their career stories through short and long-form videos.
The IMI said that this is a significant step for the sector, but called for Apprenticeships Levy reform for larger businesses.
The IMI called on the Government to support the automotive industry beyond manufacturing and R&D.
