Its report showed that 65% of single female homeowners aged 55 to 70 will have retirement income below the Pensions UK moderate living standard, yet hold on average £225,000 in housing wealth.
Among homeowners who spoke to a financial adviser about retirement, just 7% were offered equity release without prompting.
The report stated that pension withdrawals alone may not be enough for planning goals, and the family home should be considered as part of the balance sheet.
Research from Fairer Finance for the Equity Release Council found that 51% of households aged 60 and over could have a better and longer retirement by using equity release.
