Aviva and Royal London were among the providers to receive overall gold awards in Benefits Guru’s 2026 Workplace Pension and Auto Enrolment Ratings.

Mercer was the only provider to receive overall gold awards and gold across every sub-category in both the workplace pension and auto-enrolment ratings.

Legal & General returned to the ratings after a one-year break.

It received an overall gold award for workplace pensions and silver for auto-enrolment.

New categories covered member communications and behavioural nudges, member insights and analysis, and support for members at retirement.

The ratings also looked at providers’ preparations for pension dashboards, targeted support reforms and the value for money framework.

Ian McKenna, founder of Benefits Guru and the Financial Technology Research Centre, said: “Our 2026 ratings show workplace providers continue to raise their game.

“They are innovating in member communications and digital tools to deliver better outcomes for savers.

“The best companies are recognising they need to do far more than just provide a pension.”

McKenna added: “The sector has spent much of the past year adapting fast: preparing for pensions dashboard connection, reshaping member guidance ahead of the FCA’s targeted support reforms and getting ready for the value for money framework that will change how schemes are judged on cost, investment performance and service.

“However, providers can no longer rely on strength in one area to carry the whole proposition.

“It’s the additional elements they provide that make the difference between propositions that deliver what regulations require and those that are good or great.”

He said: “We are also pleased to introduce several new categories this year looking at Member Communications & Behavioural Nudges, Member Insights & Analysis and Support for Members At Retirement.”
