Only 41% of senior HR professionals in the UK regularly analyse workplace misconduct or speak-up data for patterns, according to research from Culture Shift.

Another 41% said they do this occasionally, while 18% do not analyse their data or are unsure if it happens.

The study found just 43% use reporting insights to inform preventative action, with 42% saying they do so occasionally and 15% rarely or never.

67% use Word documents or spreadsheets, and 6% do not collate misconduct data at all.

22% manage all misconduct and speak-up data manually.

Gemma McCall, co-founder and CEO of Culture Shift, said: “It’s positive that organisations are investing in reporting processes, and many are making real progress, but collecting data is really only the starting point.

“The real value and change comes from what organisations do with it – looking at reports collectively, identifying trends, and using those insights to act before issues escalate.

“Handling cases that have already happened is not the same as preventing them.”

McCall added: “The move from one to the other requires something that most organisations haven’t yet built: the analytical discipline to treat every report as a data point, not just a problem to resolve.

“With the strengthened duties under the Employment Rights Act coming into force in October, organisations will need to demonstrate not just that they have reporting processes in place, but that they are actively using the information they receive to prevent misconduct.

“That shift from reactive to proactive is where prevention really begins.”
