Isle of Man doctors accept three-year pay deal after pay dispute

Doctors on the Isle of Man have accepted a three-year pay deal after voting overwhelmingly in favour of an improved offer from Manx Care.

The agreement follows a ballot in which doctors voted in favour of industrial action before Manx Care made a revised pay offer during the closing days of the vote.

In a referendum that closed on 6th July, 139 of 144 doctors voted to accept the deal.

Under the agreement, senior doctors and dentists will receive a 6% pay increase for 2025/26, backdated to April 2025, followed by a 4.65% rise for 2026/27, also backdated.

Resident doctors will receive a 7.5% increase for 2025/26 and a 6% rise for 2026/27.

Both groups will receive a further above-inflation pay increase in 2027/28, set at 1.5% above the September 2026 CPI inflation rate.

The dispute centred on pay erosion, with the BMA saying doctors’ pay on the island had fallen by 29% in real terms since 2008.

Dr Prakash Thiagarajan, chair of the Isle of Man Medical Society, said: “I’m pleased that we managed to win this improved pay offer for doctors on the island without needing to strike.
