Coventry University Group and St Cecilia partner to tackle social care workforce shortages

Coventry University Group has partnered with St Cecilia’s care group in North Yorkshire to help tackle workforce shortages and retention in the social care sector. 

The pilot programme is being delivered through CU Scarborough and focuses on improving skills for registered nurses working across St Cecilia’s care group. 

Nurses will attend workshops and skills sessions at CU Scarborough covering key areas like end-of-life care, dementia care, wound care, catheterisation and practice assessor training.

Participants will get continuing professional development (CPD) recognition for their Nursing and Midwifery Council revalidation requirements. 

St Cecilia’s clinical leadership team will support nurses in applying their learning back in the workplace. 

The scheme also aims to reduce professional isolation among nurses working in care homes and social care settings.

Claire Barwick, deputy director for health and care education at Coventry University Group, said: “By opening up access to the expertise, facilities and clinical skills training available at CU Scarborough we can help nurses maintain and develop their skills while also strengthening links between higher education and the social care sector.
