Reduce ZEV mandate to protect jobs, Unite warns
Unite said that without Government action, manufacturers may opt to stop selling cars instead of risking fines.

Unite the Union has warned that a “decisive reduction” of ZEV mandate targets is needed to protect automotive jobs, as the current system is flawed.
Unite said that without Government action, manufacturers may opt to stop selling cars instead of risking fines, in turn threatening jobs.
It estimated that manufacturers may need to pay fines of around £11,000 per vehicle.
The union also that the Government should invest in more charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) and additional battery plants.
Unite called for a reduction of overall EV manufacturing targets under the ZEV mandate.
It said that the credit system, which allows brands who exceed EV targets to sell credits to those who underachieve, only benefits the Chinese brands and Tesla.
Sharon Graham, general secretary at Unite, said: “The current ZEV mandate is significantly contributing to the loss of automotive jobs in Britian. This is a clear fact.
“The targets must be radically reduced.
