More than three in five adults said it is acceptable for men and women to wear shorts in the workplace during hot weather, according to findings from Ipsos.
Short skirts or short dresses for women got support from close to 59% of adults, with only 20% saying they are unacceptable.
64% viewed flip-flops as unacceptable for men at work, with 58% saying the same for women.
Tank tops or vest tops were seen as unacceptable for men in the office by 56%, while opinion was split for women, with 40% finding them acceptable and 38% saying they were not.
Hawaiian-print shirts were seen as unacceptable for men by 44% and for women by 41%.
Baseball caps divided opinion, with 39% calling them unacceptable for men and 41% for women.
Outside of work, half the public (52%) said it is unacceptable for men to walk around shirtless during hot weather, with the rest split between finding it acceptable (23%) and neither acceptable nor unacceptable (23%).
Women were more likely to see it as unacceptable at 57%, compared to 47% of men.
