Three in five workers lose trust in their employer after poor redundancy communications – Careerminds UK
Nearly 60% of workers made redundant said they were now less likely to recommend their former employer.
Three in five UK workers said they lost trust in their employer after poor redundancy announcements, according to data from Careerminds UK.
One in six employers planned job cuts in 2026 due to artificial intelligence (AI), with over a quarter of those expecting to lose more than 10% of their workforce.
Nearly 60% of workers made redundant said they were now less likely to recommend their former employer, while 31% said they were much less likely.
For those who stayed, 47% were less likely to recommend the company to a friend, including 17% who said much less likely.
Only 28% of employees made redundant felt leadership was clear about why job cuts happened.
Amanda Augustine, certified professional career coach and resident careers expert at Careerminds UK, said: “How a company handles redundancy says everything about how much it values its people, and employees don’t forget.
“The knock-on effects extend far beyond the people leaving.
“Remaining employees are watching closely, and if they don’t like what they see, they’ll vote with their feet or their voice.”
