Analysis from Diamond Interiors found that half of Gen Z workers said they would prefer work social events without alcohol.

The survey, carried out with YouGov, showed a clear split, with 50% saying they did not prefer alcohol-free events.

The preference for alcohol-free events reflects wider lifestyle changes, including reduced alcohol consumption and more focus on health, according to Diamond Interiors.

Rebecca Waller, interior designer at Diamond Interiors, said: “What we are seeing is a clear shift in how younger employees want to engage with workplace culture.

“Social connection is still important, but it is not necessarily tied to alcohol in the same way it has been in the past.

“When half of Gen Z say they would prefer work events without alcohol, it suggests employers need to think more carefully about how inclusive their social environments really are.”

Waller added: “Creating spaces that support different types of interaction is key.

“Whether that is through more flexible breakout areas, collaborative zones or quieter spaces, the workplace itself can play a role in shaping how people connect without relying on traditional formats like after-work drinks.

“Businesses that recognise this shift and adapt will be better placed to build cultures that resonate with a wider range of employees.”
