The Government will offer 300,000 new work experience and training placements for young people across the country.
The roles will be in construction, health and social care and hospitality.
The move follows Alan Milburn’s interim report, which found the importance of work experience in tackling youth unemployment.
Young people will access these placements as part of a £2.5bn youth employment support package.
The Government said this will help reverse the rise in numbers not in education, employment, or training, which stands at just over one million.
Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden, said: “The evidence is clear, give young people real work experience and the chances of them building a lasting career increase dramatically.
“That’s why we are creating 300,000 new placements, backed by some of Britain’s biggest employers, to give young people the skills, confidence and connections they need to get on.
“This generation deserves every opportunity to succeed, and this Government is determined to deliver it.”
