DfT publishes work experience guide to support logistics workforce pipeline

The Department for Transport’s Freight Workforce Group has published a new guide to help logistics employers deliver effective work experience programmes, aimed at supporting long-term workforce development across the sector.

Produced with support from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport UK and industry stakeholders, the guide is designed for employers, as well as organisations working with schools, colleges and careers partners.

The document outlines the benefits of work experience for both employers and young people, positioning it as a key tool in addressing skills shortages and improving awareness of careers in logistics.

It also provides practical advice on implementation, including different delivery models such as in-person, longer-term and virtual placements, alongside case studies and guidance on improving accessibility.
