Pension fraud taskforce welcomes Government’s new fraud disruption unit

A multi-agency group tackling pension scams has welcomed the Government’s launch of a new fraud disruption unit as part of its latest national strategy to combat fraud.

The Pension Scams Action Group responded to the Home Office’s announcement of a new Online Crime Centre, unveiled on 9th March as part of the government’s updated Fraud Strategy.

The unit is intended to strengthen efforts to detect and disrupt online criminal activity, including financial scams targeting pension savers.

The group brings together regulators, law enforcement bodies and industry representatives to coordinate action against pension fraud.

Gaucho Rasmussen, executive director of the enforcement and legal group at The Pensions Regulator, said: “Fraud wrecks lives. Tackling it demands strong, coordinated action.

“The Pension Scams Action Group works closely with law enforcement, government, the pensions industry and other partners to detect, disrupt and block pension fraudsters and hold perpetrators to account.

“We welcome the government’s fraud strategy as a significant step forward, which recognises the need for robust inter-agency collaboration to stop scammers in their tracks and protect savers’ money.”
