NHS England has released its 2025 staff survey results, showing staff engagement fell to 5.91 from 6.47 in 2024. 

Morale dropped to 5.35 from 5.73, with more staff considering leaving and negative stress indicators up. 

The score for being compassionate and inclusive went down to 6.92. 

Compassionate culture fell to 5.67, while compassionate leadership inched up to 7.47. 

Diversity and equality dropped to 7.73, and inclusion fell to 6.79.

Recognition and reward scored 6.20, slightly lower than before. 

Having a voice that counts was 6.02.

The safe and healthy measure fell to 6.13, with increases in burnout and negative experiences.

Learning remained low at 4.62, with development down to 5.09 and appraisals up to 4.14.

Flexible working was the highest scoring cut at 7.22, up from last year.

Support for work-life balance and flexible working both improved.

Teamwork stayed steady at 6.80, though team working slipped to 6.27 and line management rose to 7.32.

Flexible working was ranked highest, followed by compassion and inclusion and teamwork. Recognition, safety, and having a voice followed, with learning the lowest at 4.62.
