IT and administration jobs drew the most applications from jobseekers across the UK, according to research from CV-Library.
IT topped the list, with software engineer roles generating the highest interest and average salaries of more than £61,000.
The sector attracted applicants with strong pay, future-proof skills linked to artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, and clear progression routes.
Administration was second, with receptionist jobs most popular.
These roles offered average pay of £30,800 and were widely available, with a low barrier to entry, stability and transferable skills.
Hospitality and hotel jobs continued to attract high application numbers despite offering lower pay, indicating that flexibility, social environments and people-focused roles were priorities for many jobseekers.
Arts and graphic design roles also proved competitive, with graphic designer jobs most sought after.
Katie Emerton, recruitment expert at CV-Library, said: “These roles attract such high application numbers because they tick a lot of boxes for today’s jobseekers: flexibility, stability and clear progression.
“Roles such as software engineer, marketing executive and graphic designer offer future-proof skills and long-term career potential, while others like receptionists and cleaners appeal because they’re widely available, flexible and don’t require lengthy entry routes.
“Together, these jobs feel secure but also rewarding – key to attracting UK candidates to apply.”
