Evolt Charging has partnered with Dundee City Council to deliver its first successful work placement scheme for a school student, providing practical experience within the electric vehicle charging sector.
The nine-week placement took place at Evolt’s Dundee office and was coordinated by Lynsey Miller, network relationship manager at Evolt Charging.
The student, Martha Crosbie from Grove Academy in Dundee, gained exposure to a wide range of functions, including technology, operations and customer engagement, as well as the wider ambitions of the EV charging industry.
As part of the placement, Crosbie completed a detailed skills workbook and led a research and design project focused on a new EV charger concept. The project concluded with a presentation to Evolt’s senior leadership team.
Following the success of the placement, Crosbie will achieve a level 6 SVQ qualification, equivalent to a Scottish Higher.
Lynsey Miller, network relationship manager at Evolt Charging, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be supporting the next generation of talent and provide real opportunities to engage within our fast-evolving industry.
“This scheme is a testament to Evolt’s wider commitment to developing young, local talent by giving back to our communities across Scotland and beyond. Martha’s research project was exemplary and provided key insight in the future of EV charging infrastructure.”
Crosbie said the placement provided valuable insight into the sector and helped her develop new skills.
She said: “My time at Evolt has given me real insight into how the EV industry works and the great people behind it. I felt trusted to take on responsibility in presenting my own charger design to the leadership team and I’m grateful for all the support and encouragement I received throughout my placement.”
Mark Fleming, work experience coordinator at Dundee City Council, said the partnership demonstrated the importance of collaboration between councils and local businesses. He said the placement boosted the student’s confidence and highlighted the benefits of investing in local talent.
Evolt Charging is now working with Dundee City Council to plan the next round of placements in Dundee later this year, with similar initiatives expected to be rolled out across the wider business in partnership with local councils and communities nationwide.
The placement builds on Evolt’s existing work with Dundee and Angus College, including the donation of refurbished EV chargers for training purposes, the delivery of industry courses for staff, and participation in regional STEM events aimed at showcasing careers in EV charging and clean energy.
