Amey has marked National Apprenticeship Week 2026 by running a new artificial intelligence (AI) training event for apprentices.

The company held the workshop at its Innovation Studio, bringing together 25 apprentices for a day of practical learning on AI.

Apprentices worked with the AI and innovation team to learn about agentic AI and were tasked with designing and building their own AI agents.

The session also included talks from external partners, with speakers from Microsoft and BPP sharing their views on AI in the workplace.

Aman Haque, transport infrastructure apprentice at Amey, said: “Today was very inspiring and really opened up the realms of AI in a working environment, I have left today with knowledge that is valuable to my role within Amey and has definitely given me the confidence to really use AI as a working assistant.”

Michael Burgess, chief people officer at Amey, said: “Apprentices bring fresh thinking, energy and ambition into our organisation, and National Apprenticeship Week is a chance to celebrate the contribution they make every day.

“As the skills landscape continues to evolve at pace, it is essential that we stay ahead of what the workforce and our clients will need in the years to come.

“That is why we are giving our apprentices the opportunity to build practical AI skills that will help them thrive in a rapidly changing world.”

Burgess added: “By equipping them with these future ready capabilities, we are not only investing in their careers but strengthening Amey’s ability to innovate and deliver for the communities we work in.”

Liam Cox, AI workforce specialist at Microsoft, said: “We are delighted to have joined Amey for National Apprenticeship Week in their newly launched Innovation Studio.

“AI skills are becoming essential across every industry, and empowering early career professionals with the ability to build AI agents with M365 Copilot is key to future innovation.

“It was inspiring to see how Amey’s apprentices embraced these technologies with such curiosity and ambition.”

Cox added: “It was a pleasure to help equip them with the practical skills and confidence they need to shape a more efficient, connected, and intelligent future.”
