Telford & Wrekin Council joined Shropshire Council and Herefordshire Council to launch the Get Marches Working Plan.

The initiative aims to help more people in the Marches find jobs, training and opportunities.

It was set up by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to meet changing workforce needs.

Regional partners including the Integrated Care Board, Jobcentre Plus, voluntary and community sector organisations, local employers and further and higher education providers contributed.

The plan sets out to create an inclusive and dynamic labour market for sustainable employment.

It connects employer-led schemes with training, strengthens links between schools and businesses, and offers employability support within community services.

Each council will deliver its own action plan based on local needs. Employers, training providers and community organisations are invited to get involved.

The plans focus on supporting groups with barriers to employment, such as disadvantaged young people, disabled adults, those with health issues and people with caring responsibilities.

Formal governance will oversee delivery and regular reviews will monitor progress.

This joint approach aims to keep communities resilient in changing labour market conditions.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment & Skills at Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “It’s essential that people learn new skills and have access to a wide range of employment opportunities in Telford and Wrekin and across the region.

“This plan is a positive step to tackle some of the challenges which people face locally and support them with the skills they need to fill any skills gaps.

“We’re pleased to be working in partnership with other local authorities – ensuring that people have the best job and training opportunities close to where they live.”
