University of Exeter to launch 15-month degree apprenticeship for nursing associates
The programme is open to all nursing associates in the UK who have an Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)-approved qualification.
University of Exeter is launching a new degree apprenticeship that will let nursing associates become registered nurses in 15 months.
The course is a mix of online, workplace and some in-person learning.
Apprentices can keep working and earning while they study, without having to move or travel daily.
The programme, subject to approval by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), is open to all nursing associates in the UK who have an NMC-approved qualification.
The first group will start in April 2026.
At the end of 15 months, apprentices can graduate with a BSc (Hons) in adult nursing and become eligible for NMC registration.
Anca Ichim, programme developer at University of Exeter, said: “Our vision is to create a progression route that allows learners to advance their academic and professional development while remaining embedded in practice.
“This pathway will strengthen professional identity and cultivate the leadership, accountability, responsibility, and courage needed to deliver safe, efficient, and person-centred care.
