Government refreshes WBC to drive workplace equality and boost women’s pay
New members have been brought in to tackle issues like the gender pay gap, sexual harassment, pay, progression and productivity.
The Government has refreshed the Women’s Business Council (WBC) to help more women at work and support the growth mission and Plan for Change.
The WBC brings together leaders from sectors including digital, technology, financial services, professional services and retail, aiming to boost women’s representation in businesses across the country.
New members have been brought in to tackle issues like the gender pay gap, sexual harassment, pay, progression and productivity.
The WBC will also share best practice from the UK with other countries.
This comes as the Government moves forward with the Employment Rights Bill.
The bill will bring in mandatory gender pay gap and menopause action plans, more protections for pregnant women and new mothers, and stronger rules to tackle sexual harassment at work.
Seema Malhotra MP, Minister for Equalities, said: “This government is committed to breaking down the barriers to opportunity which have held working women back, and the Women’s Business Council will play a key role in that.
“Our Plan for Change is supporting women’s economic empowerment – alongside expanding childcare and supporting flexible working.
